to Boston to compete
at the Coast-to-Coast
Battle in Beantown on Friday.
The 8-kilometer race is slated
to start at 3:15 p.m. (CT) and
will be held at Franklin Park,
a course UW head coach Mick
Byrne is very familiar with.
"My teams at Iona competed
there many times," Byrne said.
"It is the regular site of the

Northeast Regional, and the
site of major college and high
school meets in the northeast."
Although the meet is
dubbed a "Coast-to-Coast"
battle, a majority of the teams
competing are from the northeast, including Byrne's alma
mater, Providence. The Friars,
ranked No. 25 in the latest

National Coaches Poll, are one of three
ranked teams the No. 8 Badgers will go
up against, along with No. 9 Syracuse
and No. 12 Oregon.
Even with the tough competition Wisconsin will face, Byrne believes the Badgers need to keep keep their focus on the
important meets in November.
"We ran a hilly loop on Tuesday to prepare for the Big Ten meet at Purdue in
early November," Byrne said. "This meet
this weekend is a competition, but it's
important for us not to lose sight of the
goals for this year.
"For us, every meet is an opportunity
to see where the athletes are at in their
training. We have to put it all into perspective."
Byrne says the runners are also looking forward to the challenge this weekend and to explore one of America's historic cities.
"I think it will be fun for our kids," Byrne said. "They are excited about heading to the East Coast. There aren't a lot of
kids that have been to Boston, and they
are looking forward to the opportunity."
MOVING UP IN THE POLLS
● Even without competing last weekend, the Badgers jumped up to No. 8 in
the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll
after checking in at No. 10 the week
prior. UW began the season at No. 7 in
the rankings.
