Badgers open Big Ten play
at home this weekend
UW travels to NC State for final tournament
or first-year UW head
coach Kelly Sheffield,
competing in the Big Ten
is something he is looking forward to.
"You're playing back to back
against some of the best programs in the country," Sheffield said. "I'm stoked to go
against it. I think our players
are. That's why you come to
this conference to play against

and with the best."
The Big Ten is arguably the
best conference in the country
with eight teams ranked in the
top 25 of the national coaches'
poll, including three in the top
10. Wisconsin is just outside
the ranking, receiving 47 points
this week.
"We're going to have to be
on top of our game to give ourselves a chance," said Sheffield.

GREAT START
● The Badgers wrapped up the nonconference season with an 11-1 mark,
tied for the ninth-best start in program history with one loss. The best
openings ever are 11-0 marks in 1996
and 2010. The best start with one loss
is a 17-1 mark in 2007.
Wisconsin won its third tournament
of the season last weekend, claiming
the NC State Invitational with a 3-0 record. The Badgers also won the Pepperdine Classic on Aug. 30-31 and the
NDSU Classic on Sept. 6-7. UW placed
second in its own InnTowner Invitational on Sept. 13-14.
HONORING LOWE
● Every year Wisconsin honors former
head coach Steve Lowe at its Big Ten
opener. Lowe, who was 108-64 as
head coach from 1986-90, led the Badgers to their first Big Ten title, NCAA
tournament appearance and national
ranking in 1990.
Lowe, a non-smoker who passed
away from lung cancer in 1991, is also
remembered with the Steve Lowe Memorial Scholarship, given to a player
who exemplifies Lowe's love for the
game. This year's recipient is senior
Annemarie Hickey.
The Badgers are 15-7 in 22 Steve
Lowe Night matches.
