Community Outreach Through the CHP Clinic Programs The CHP, through its Community Clinics, addresses a key Vision 2020 priority. These Clinics address an outstanding community need for health care access and allow the College to continue its mission. Beyond community access, in areas ranging from local schools to the Summit County Health District, the CHP fuels an entrepreneurial spirit among its faculty and staff. The ability to uncover and develop community health partnerships has created both funding streams and research opportunities for the College. Currently the Nursing Center for Community Health provides episodic medical care to the vulnerable and underserved population in The Audiology and Speech Center at The University of Akron receives more than 4,000 patient visits yearly at its Polsky Building Clinic on The University of Akron Campus. From this site, SSLPA graduate students in training provide a full array of hearing and balance testing, hearing aid dispensary services, speech-language evaluations and speech-language therapy. All students are supervised by licensed and professional speech-language pathologists and audiologists. This clinic serves patients of all ages from The University of Akron campus, the Greater Akron-Canton Community, and from across Northeast Ohio. The Nutrition Center has continued to develop strong partnerships on campus and throughout the Greater Akron Community. The Nutrition Center was a key participant in a new wellness initiative for UA employees, Healthy EatingHealthy U. Campus commitments also included the Partners in Nutrition program with campus food service. Students on a meal plan can receive nutrition assessments and consultation through this initiative. Community engagement was a key focus of both students and faculty. Students in the Coordinated Program provided nutrition information and prepared food to showcase those facts to the Buckeye Branch of the Medina Library system during its Family Fun Fest. Nutrition presentations were developed for Wellness Wednesdays at Edgewood apartments. Other special projects included working with Acme fresh markets on their employee health and wellness program and with Akron Children's Medical Center and their Future Fitness Club. 9
