DEAR JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY FAMILIES,
It is my pleasure to present the inaugural issue of JWU Family Connection. This newly designed, digital
publication gives us the opportunity to share timely news and happenings at each of our four regional
campuses.
Every September, I look forward to welcoming our new and returning students to campus. This fall term
is especially exciting as the university begins a year-long centennial celebration. Since its founding in
1914, the university's philosophy has been, in the words of one of our founders, Mary T. Wales: "to teach
a thing not for its own sake, but as preparation for what lies beyond." We remain committed to helping
our students achieve their professional aspirations as we move forward, strengthening the university's
status as a recognized leader throughout the world.
Although much distance separates our four campuses, we are one university bound by our mission
to provide our students with an exceptional education that inspires professional success and lifelong
personal and intellectual growth. Every time I visit our campuses throughout the year, I feel the Wildcat
spirit among our students, faculty and staff. You and your student are members of the JWU community,
comprised of 17,000 current students, over 2,400 faculty and staff members and more than 90,000
alumni from around the globe.
We know that you play a vital role in your student's education. I encourage you to come to campus
and share in their experiences and JWU traditions. Wishing you and your student every success for the
coming year.
Sincerely,
Mim L. Runey, LP.D.
