Winning Wisconsin: UW
looks to earn state title
Badgers unbeaten vs. in-state teams in 2013
here aren't many things
the Badgers have yet to
accomplish at this point
in the year.
UW fought off a four-game
road swing to start the season, finishing 3-0-1 during
that gauntlet, and reappeared
in the national rankings this
week following its shutout of
Milwaukee on Sunday.
But on Wednesday night,

the Badgers have the opportunity to do something no team
has done at UW during the
Paula Wilkins era: go unbeaten
against the state of Wisconsin.
After outlasting then-No.
14 Marquette in an exhibition on Aug. 15 and blanking
the Panthers this past weekend, Wilkins is emphasizing
the importance of completing
the trifecta Wednesday as the

team welcomes Green Bay to the McClimon Complex.
"To go unbeaten in your own state
is a huge accomplishment in my eyes,"
Wilkins explained. "The fact that we
haven't been able to do it in my six years
here is one thing, but the tradition and
overall strength of the in-state teams
speak highly of the level of soccer Wisconsin is able to produce.
"For us to sweep these teams is a great
sign that we have come a long way from
where we were when I got here in 2007
in terms of the in-state hierarchy."
THE REIGN OF ROSE
● Following a seven-point week, which
included a combined two goals and
two assists in a pair of matches, freshman Rose Lavelle was tabbed the Big
Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. Lavelle is in the midst of a threegame points streak, which includes at
least two goals or two assists in each
match during that span.
HIT THE ROAD JACK
● After starting the season with fourstraight road contests, the Badgers
will again hit the road to start Big Ten
play. Wisconsin will have played four
of its last six matches away from home
following its visit to Michigan State on
Sept. 29.
