UW fought off a four-game road swing to start the season, finishing 3-0-1 during that gauntlet, and reappeared in the national rankings this week following its shutout of Milwaukee on Sunday. But on Wednesday night, T 46 // VARSITY September 19, 2013 the Badgers have the opportunity to do something no team has done at UW during the Paula Wilkins era: go unbeaten against the state of Wisconsin. After outlasting then-No. 14 Marquette in an exhibition on Aug. 15 and blanking the Panthers this past weekend, Wilkins is emphasizing the importance of completing the trifecta Wednesday as the 7 p.m. Noon 6 p.m. Noon team welcomes Green Bay to the McClimon Complex. "To go unbeaten in your own state is a huge accomplishment in my eyes," Wilkins explained. "The fact that we haven't been able to do it in my six years here is one thing, but the tradition and overall strength of the in-state teams speak highly of the level of soccer Wisconsin is able to produce. "For us to sweep these teams is a great sign that we have come a long way from where we were when I got here in 2007 in terms of the in-state hierarchy." THE REIGN OF ROSE ● Following a seven-point week, which included a combined two goals and two assists in a pair of matches, freshman Rose Lavelle was tabbed the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday. Lavelle is in the midst of a threegame points streak, which includes at least two goals or two assists in each match during that span. HIT THE ROAD JACK ● After starting the season with fourstraight road contests, the Badgers will again hit the road to start Big Ten play. Wisconsin will have played four of its last six matches away from home following its visit to Michigan State on Sept. 29.
