SEPTEMBER 9, 2000: Junior tailback Michael Bennett (pictured) ran for 290 yards, including
a school-record 258 in the second half, to lead the Badgers to a 27-23 victory over Oregon.

SEPTEMBER 8, 1990: The Barry Alvarez era at Wisconsin ― which would produce three
Big Ten titles, three Rose Bowl wins and seven bowl victories in nine tries ― started with
a 28-12 loss at home to California.

DEBUT OF DAYNE
SEPTEMBER 7, 1996: Freshman RB Ron Dayne made his Badgers debut as he rushed
for 53 yards on eight carries and scored his first career touchdown in UW's 24-3 win over
Eastern Michigan.
ABOVE AND BELOW
SEPTEMBER 6, 2003: Wisconsin became the first team in Big Ten history to have a 200yard rusher and 200-yard receiver in the same game. Anthony Davis rushed for 247 yards
and Lee Evans caught nine passes for 214 yards (including a school-record 99-yarder
from Jim Sorgi) in a 48-31 win over Akron. Evans and running back Dwayne Smith repeated the feat against Michigan State later in the season.
