INSIDE MEN'S SOCCER BY JEREMY WODAJO @BADGERMSOCCER SCHEDULE (0-0-1) LAST WEEK Aug. 31 at UMKC T, 1-1 COMING UP Sept. 6 W. Michigan 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 DePaul 2:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at USF 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at FGCU 7 p.m. Sept. 20 vs. IPFW 5 p.m. No place like home: UW eager to begin home tilt UW welcomes W. Michigan for PAC the MAC iding the coat tails of their exuberant senior class, the Badgers return home this week, itching to get back on the pitch following their 1-1 draw in the season opener at the University of MissouriKansas City on Saturday. Friday's home opener will serve as a perfect scenario for a team that has high expectations for the season and is R 48 // VARSITY September 5, 2013 looking for a signature win to boost its confidence. UW head coach John Trask believes his team has the talent and depth to make noise in the non-conference, as well as the Big Ten schedule, but sees the uneasiness from a team that has yet to get its feet set underneath it. "I think there's a fine balance there," Trask said. "I do believe the experience helps you. I also think the guys aren't playing free and it showed a little this past weekend." The team will inherit a pretty loose atmoshpere on Friday evening when the fifth-annual PAC the MAC gets into full swing, beginning with the UW women's soccer game against Vanderbilt at 5 p.m. UW knows it must make the most of its home tilts this season, especially early on. Friday's doubleheader will begin a short homestand for the Badgers, who head back out onto the road for a fourmatch trip beginning on Sept. 12. One thing remains for certain, though: the Badgers have multiple options at nearly every field position, a luxury Trask has been looking forward to since his first season in 2010. "We feel like there's a healthy competition and hopefully guys are going to relish that challenge," Trask said. "It's not guaranteed that you're going to be on the field for 90 minutes every single game just because you've been there in the past, so hopefully this breeds some great practices leading up to Friday." PAC THE MAC ● Friday's matches for the UW men and women will be highlighted by the fifth-annual PAC the MAC event, which includes UW student night, fan giveaways and reduced ticket prices.
