Wisconsin faces two NCAA tournament teams

TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
●The Badgers opened the season 3-0
for the first time since 2010. First-year
head coach Kelly Sheffield opened a
new era at Wisconsin, winning his
first three matches and tournament in
the Cardinal and White.
UW swept Iona and Delaware and
upset host Pepperdine, 3-1, to claim
the classic.
Junior Ellen Chapman was named
the most valuable player of the Pepperdine Classic. Chapman, who moved
to right-side hitter after playing on the
left side her first two seasons, averaged 4.9 kills per set.
Juniors Courtney Thomas and Dominique Thompson were also named to
the all-tournament team.
Thomas set the Badgers to a .324
team hitting percentage. The 6-foot-0
setter averaged 1.90 kills, 9.80 assists,
2.70 digs, 1.10 blocks and 0.30 service
aces per set.
Thompson returned from a redshirt
season to lead the Badgers in hitting
percentage. The 5-11 middle blocker hit .520 percent on the weekend,
which leads all Big Ten hitters, adding
3.10 kills per set.
