Roberts led his team to a third consecutive Southern Conference title in 1988, and was the first Furman player to be named Player of the Year in the league, in both 1986 and 1988. He also participated in the prestigious Budweiser Senior Bowl and scored the game-winning goal. Eight NCAA Tournament Appearances Pete Santora Matt Goldsmith NSCAA All-American 1996 & 1997 First Team NSCAA All-American 1999; Second Team 2000; Third Team Santora became the first Furman soccer player to earn first-team AllAmerican honors, and was named to the team for a second consecutive year in 1997. During his career, he was named to the All-Southern Conference team three times, and was named Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1997. He led the Paladins to a 21-4 SoCon record during his four years at Furman, and was named the school's Male Athlete of the Year in 1998. Santora was drafted by the USL's Albuquerque Geckos. He later went on to co-found Blue Sombrero, and was inducted into Furman's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. Pete Santora Daniel Alvarez NSCAA All-American 1999 First Team In addition to being named first-team AllAmerica in 1999, Alvarez also holds the Furman record for single season assists (16) and career assists (41). His 16 assists were good for first in the nation during his senior season. Alvarez also earned All-South Region honors, Southern Conference Player of the Year, and first team All-Southern Conference honors as a senior. He helped lead Furman to a perfect 8-0 SoCon record, a league tournament championship and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. He was drafted by the MLS' Metrostars and the USL's Atlanta Silverbacks. Alvarez was inducted into Furman's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. In addition to being named NSCAA AllAmerican twice during his career at Furman, Goldsmith was also named All-South Region in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He currently holds the record at Furman for most consecutive games started, with 91, as well as most games played, with 91. He competed for both the US U-18 and U-20 National Teams, and was selected to participate in the Umbro Select All-Star Weekend. He was drafted by the USL's Charleston Battery. John Barry Nusum NSCAA All-American 1999, 2000, 2001 First Team Nusum left Furman as the school's all-time leader in career goals (61), single season points (48), and career points (161). He was named NSCAA All-American for three times and was a top-three finalist for the prestigious Hermann Trophy in 2001. Nusum is one of only 22 23 players to be named All-America three times, with one of the other 21 players being his father, John Nusum. John Barry Nusum helped lead the Paladins to four Southern Conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a quarterfinal finish in 1999, and was named Male Athlete of the Year at Furman in 2001. He was drafted by the Columbus Crew of the MLS and currently plays for the USL's Bermuda Hogges. He is also a member of the Bermuda national team and was named Bermuda's 2005 Male Athlete of the Year. He was inducted into the Furman Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
