Cody Rissman Megan Beers Remington Scholars T he Remington Scholarships are presented to the male and female student-athletes who completed their eligibility with the highest cumulative grade point averages and will graduate this season. Named in honor of former UW professor Frank Remington, who was a faculty athletics representative to the NCAA, Big Ten and WCHA, recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship providing they enter a post-graduate program within one year of graduation. Cody Rissman, a senior from Dekalb, Ill., graduated in December with degrees in biology and microbiology. He was the three seat of the varsity eight for the past two seasons. Rissman is a three-time Academic AllBig Ten selection and received a $7,500 award as one of the inaugural recipients of the Big Ten Conference Postgraduate Scholarship, Megan Beers is a four-time Academic AllBig Ten team member in track and field and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree in cross country. An elementary education and anthropology major from Brooklyn, Wis., Beers was fourth in the 1500 meters at the 2013 Payton Jordan Invitational with a time of 4:35.06. Her best showing of the year came at the Sea Ray Relays, where she ran a personal best 1500-meter time of 4:31.83 en route to a fifthplace showing. During her time at Wisconsin, Beers was involved in Athletes in Action, Student-Athletes Equally Supporting Others and Student Athlete Advisory Council and student taught in the Madison Metropolitan School District.
