Resource EFFICIENCY What we aim to improve, we measure. Alpine Bank facilities staff centrally tracks all utility bills, looks for out-of-range data, and reports exceptions to location managers; the result of this is that any significant usage increase or ongoing problem can be resolved quickly to keep resource use under control. Additionally, Alpine Bank has three LEED certified buildings to date: South Rifle, Telluride, and Ridgway. Our South Rifle location was the first LEED certified bank in Colorado with construction completed in 2007. It uses half the energy and water per square foot and features solar electric panels (pictured below), extensive daylighting as well as automatic dimming, high R value insulation, and efficient heating and cooling systems. Also in 2007, our Telluride branch received an efficiency remodel earning it LEED certification with low-flow lavatories and water closets, efficient lighting, 90%+ efficient boilers, a cooling system which uses zero ozone depleting refrigerants, and ENERGYSTAR rated appliances. Furthermore, this location also receives LEED credit for its commitment to being pedestrian friendly with easy access to public transportation, adequate bike and ski storage for customers and employees, and showering facilities for employees. LEED certified in 2009, our Ridgway location uses less than half the energy and water of a standard commercial building constructed to code with features such as a tight building envelope, geothermal heating and cooling, efficient lighting, low e-windows, tankless hot water heater, investment in 100% renewable electricity, bike racks, and a shower room for employees. WORKSPACE Consciousness At Alpine Bank, we're continually seeking out ways to reduce our environmental footprint and in turn, leave our communities cleaner for future generations. In June 2011, we installed the Garfield Energy Navigator software at our central operations building in Rifle – one of our larger energy-using locations due in part to the main server room, the number of employees, and the size and age of the building. With the Garfield Energy Navigator, real-time electricity use is recorded on a chart every 15 minutes making use visible for any given time frame throughout a day. This is known as Interval Data Recording (IDR) and is significant to understanding when and why changes in resource use occur, allowing us to make informed adjustments and therefore reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, we can compare readings day over day, week over week, and year over year, as well as the corresponding outdoor temperature to assist in normalizing climate variances that affect energy use. As a result of the "Navi" system, we have been able to pursue some innovative and productive energy reduction strategies for this location, including incrementally notching up the server room's temperature a few degrees which reduced the demand on the AC units; better energy management and employee awareness have also been achieved as a result of the insight this software has provided. Since the implementation of this unique system, we have observed continuous incremental energy reductions in both electricity and gas consumption. www.alpinebank.com 2
