ELLIOT KRAUSE MEN'S TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY W hen it comes to the opportunities available to studentathletes at Wisconsin, it's safe to say that Elliot Krause made the most of his time in Madison. Five years after the Appleton, Wis., native walked on to the men's cross country team, Krause will walk across the stage Saturday to receive twin bachelor's degrees in mathematics and philosophy, along with a certificate in computer science. An accomplished student, Krause has already been recognized with the highest honor in athletic and academic achievement ― Capital One Academic All-America ― twice. Between cross country and track, he'll have been honored as Academic All-Big Ten eight times. 36 » VARSITY MAY 16, 2013 Athletically, Krause has been an All-American in both cross country and track. He was key to four Big Ten team titles ― and the program's fifth national championship ― in cross country and two more for the Badgers on the track, including last year's dramatic win outdoors in Madison. "Growing up, you're a fan of the Badgers, and just coming here and being able to help after being a fan of the program is phenomenal," he said. He plans to stay in Madison for the summer and take part in road races while waiting for professional opportunities ― either from a shoe company or elite training group ― to present themselves. After running, Krause plans to work in the computer science realm, likely as a software developer.
