NEWS AND EVENTS Welcome New Clubs ere t h e T rails of P assion an d P sh A Ru Rush Players Going Pro Several former Rush players have signed professional contracts in the past few months. Kekuta Manneh (TX Rush) and Paolo DelPiccolo (CO Rush) were drafted to the MLS. Manneh will play in Vancouver and DelPiccolo, who had been drafted to Montreal, has instead signed a contract with Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. Mitchell Cardenas of Texas Rush was also selected to Sporting KC in the MLS Supplemental Draft and former New Mexico Rush player Ben Spencer will play for Molde FK in Norway. urpose M On the women's side, Colorado Rush W-League players Kendall Johnson, Brittany Bock and Danielle Foxhoven will all be playing in the new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Johnson and Bock will play for Sky Blue FC and Foxhoven will play Paolo DelPiccolo with the Portland Thorns. US Alaska Rush Kendall Johnson eet , B Rush Soccer in Cameroon egins t h e P In January, four Rush coaches travelled to visit Rush Cameroon as part of a coaches exchange (Cameroon coaches visited the US in 2012). Three weeks were spent learning African customs and teaching 'The Rush Way' first hand. Matches, training sessions and more had a great affect on the players and the visiting coaches! at h to V First Rush Juggling Competition Champions Named ictory " For the first time; Rush soccer conducted a national juggling competition for players in the U12 age group. The threeweek competition saw Mika Makekau of Hawaii Rush and Jared Sun of Colorado Rush crowned as champions with 4,123 and 721 juggled respectively. At press time, a U13 competition is underway. A League of their Own When the weather is below zero, the snow is piled up, and the local league only offers 6 v 6 for players U13 and older, what's a soccer club to do? Create a league, of course! In fact, Alaska Rush created three different 9 v 9 leagues to offer players in our community the opportunity to play a truer version of the game during the winter months. The Alaska Premier League (APL) is for women U16-U23, Alaska Champions League (ACL) for men, and the Alaska Junior Premier League, for female players U13-U15. All three leagues use the Alaska Rush Clubhouse turf for games. A total of 23 teams played in the leagues during the first session. We've also been busy creating camps like the Alaska Airlines College ID Camp. It will feature twelve college coaches from both men's and women's programs from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, NCCAA and Junior College institutions. …And even busier creating programs like the Rush Referral Rewards program to boost membership and build sponsor relationships like the one with The Pita Pit. It is the largest youth soccer tournament in Alaska. This international youth soccer tournament, boasts over 2,000 players in age divisions from U11-U19. Teams from all over the US and Canada are invited to kick off the summer soccer season at our tournament.
