deserving of the attention they receive.
It's unfortunate because, from where I've
been sitting, there doesn't appear to be
much of a difference in the quality of
basketball being played in the two events.
But, I'm in the business of media and I
understand it. I also know the line has
to be drawn somewhere and, not that it
matters one iota what I think, but I'm
perfectly OK with a field of 68.
I mentioned "wins" earlier in this space.
It's worth noting that a win Tuesday night
in The Garden would give Iowa 25 for
the year, a total that would rank secondbest in school history alongside Steve
Alford's 2005-06 team that won the Big
Ten Tournament. The school record of 30
wins was established by Tom Davis' first
Iowa squad. The Hawkeyes that year were
just four points shy of advancing to the
Final Four.
I'll close with this quote from junior
Melsahn Basabe. It sums up how the
Hawkeyes and, undoubtedly, thousands
of their fans feel at this moment in time:
"We're going to New York, baby!"
University of Iowa junior guard Roy Devyn Marble scored
a team-high 24 points against Virginia on March 27,
leading the Hawkeyes to a 75-64 victory in Charlottesville,
Va. Marble made 8-of-16 field goals and 7-of-7 free
throws, with five assists and three steals.
