The Badgers have competed against seven of the top 15 teams this season, including four of the top 11. This weekend, Hite and his team will find out if that challenge has paid off as six swimmers head to Indianapolis to compete in the 2013 54 ยป VARSITY MAR CH 21, 2013 NCAA Championships. The Badgers will compete in 10 events at the championships Thursday through Saturday, including all five relays. Taking to the pool in individual competition will be sophomore Ivy Martin and senior Hannah Ross. Martin will compete in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, entering the competition as the second seed in the 50 free with a chance to take home Wisconsin's second-ever NCAA title. Ross will compete in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Also competing for UW in relay events will be senior Ruby Martin, junior Rebecka Palm, sophomore Aja Van Hout and freshman Anna Meinholz. Martin set a Big Ten record Feb. 21 at the conference championships in Minneapolis by swimming to a time of 21.84. The Madison native became the first female to break the 22-second barrier in Big Ten competition and shattered former Badger Beckie Thompson's previous league record of 21.94. Ross finished 13th in the 200-yard backstroke at the Big Ten championships and 17th in the 100 back. Two years ago, Wisconsin's Maggie Meyer claimed the Badgers' first-ever NCAA title in the 200 backstroke. Wisconsin's top relays include the 14th-seeded 200-yard freestyle relay and the 18th-seeded 400-yard medley relay.
