MR. & MS. BUCKY 2013
VIDEO: CROWNING MR. & MS. BUCKY 2013
O
ver the last few years, many Wisconsin teams and individuals have won
some of the most coveted prizes in all
of college athletics. Big Ten championships,
All-America honors, NCAA championships.
But on a cold Wednesday night in mid-February, athletes from nearly every sport met at
Union South to compete for perhaps the most
treasured of all accolades: Mr. and Ms. Bucky.
With every team eligible to send one representative, 12 women and nine men danced,
hula-hooped, sang and devoured pies in hopes
of taking home the title.
After the dust had settled, the Badgers' swimming and diving team took home a clean sweep
with freshmen Hunter Atha and Rachel Johnson
donning the crowns as Mr. and Ms. Bucky.
"It's really good because we both won together
and just brining it home for the swim team and
the diving team feels really good," Johnson said.
Both Atha and Johnson stole the show in the
singing competition. Johnson sang her heart

out to Aqua's "Barbie Girl" while Atha belted his
best Whitney Houston.
"I actually practiced, both us practiced for
this," Atha said. "We practiced our dancing and
singing, so we were prepared."
The old adage says that a true athlete will
compete with all their heart to win even the
most insignificant competition. Badgers student-athletes proved this true as they opened
the evening smashing their faces into whipped
cream pies, hoping to find a piece of bubble gum
and then produce a bubble.
After a dancing competition featuring the
diverse talents of sophomore volleyball player
Crystal Graff and wrestler Jesse Thielke, athletes competed for the title of best hoola-hopper.
After the votes were tallied, the golf teams
captured a pair of second-place finishes thanks
to freshmen Sara Simons and Matt Ross. Men's
cross country freshman Russ Sandvold and
volleyball's Crystal Graff took home third place
honors.
