The Hawkeye softball team is off to a 9-5 start to the 2013 season. They will take on Oregon State and Stanford on March 1 as part of the Easton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. (Photo by Al Carter). Knowing how well we did at times, and how we beat ourselves at times, it is frustrating, said Looper. We expect to be better and that is how we get better for the Big Ten season. These games prepare us for league play. They prepare us for that rubber match Sunday. Finishing the weekend is important, and we are learning some of those things right now; how do you start the weekend, maintain, and finish. Looper is excited about where this team is early in the season. 26 We are so much further along this year than we were last year at this time, she said. That is a positive. Our players are hearing and seeing our frustrations, but that is because we expect more, because they expect more. If we settle, it does none of us any good. Our players are starting to feel it now as well. Do I expect them to be perfect every day right now? No, because it is going to be a long season to try and maintain that. We have seen spurts of that; I would like to see it more consistently.
