Big Ten champions (again)
Wisconsin defeated Penn State, 77-41, to clinch its third Big Ten regular season title in seven seasons under Bo Ryan. A capacity crowd rushed the Kohl Center floor, setting off a wild
trophy presentation and net-cutting ceremony. Days later, the Badgers won the regularseason finale at Northwestern to give them a school-record 16 Big Ten wins.
March 4, 1978
WWIAC CHAMPS: The women���s basketball team won its first WWIAC state large school
championship, beating in-state rival UW-La Crosse for the first time in the process.

WCHA PLAYOFFS: Wisconsin defeated North Dakota, 6-5, in triple overtime, to advance to the WCHA playoff championship. Chris Chelios tied the game with 12 seconds
left and Paul Houck won it with a short-handed goal in the third overtime. At the time, it
was the longest game in school history at 101:28.

BIG TEN TITLE: Tom Clum won his second Big Ten title at the 2006 Big Ten Wrestling
Championships. After winning the title at 125 lbs. in 2004, he needed three overtime
periods to defeat Minnesota���s Mack Reiter and win the title at 133 lbs.
