Big Ten championships
Two-time champ Brandvold knows what it takes
F
ew tournaments in collegiate wrestling are as
deep as the Big Ten championships. In a conference
where each 12-man bracket could be made up of 10
ranked wrestlers, its always
a heated battle to reach the
top of the podium.
For the Badgers, maybe
no one knows that better

than assistant coach and
two-time Big Ten champion Trevor Brandvold. He is
helping Wisconsins wrestlers prepare for the 2013 Big
Ten Championships, which
are just over a week away.
The Big Ten championships are unlike any other
tournament you can wrestle
in, Brandvold said. Theres
All Day
All Day
not an easy match.
You have to be ready every single
match, and be ready to take it one
match at a time.
Brandvold was a Big Ten champion at 197 lbs. at both the 2010 and
2011 conference tournaments, and
said the best thing a wrestler can do
to have a chance to succeed at the
Big Ten tournament is have the right
mindset going in.
You need to have the confidence
and the mentality that youre going to
win that tournament, he said. You
belong as the champ you have to
have that mentality going in.
Succeeding in the Big Ten means
you are one of the premier collegiate
wrestlers in the country, Brandvold
says.
To be able to win that tournament
says a lot about the kind of wrestler
you are, he said. Im almost more
proud of being a two-time Big Ten
champion than I am of being a twotime All-American.
