UW looking to snap winless streak vs. Gophers
F
or the 11th and 12th times
in the past two years, the
Wisconsin and Minnesota
women's hockey teams will
face off against each other.
The rivalry adds importance to the games this weekend, but the history between
the two sides is deeper than
just the Border Battle.
UW has played Minnesota

for two national championships (2006, 2012) and five
WCHA Final Face-Off championships (2005, 2006,
2007, 2009, 2011).
While the six points that
are on the line in the WCHA
standings may be important,
this weekend's series has become a bit more personal for
Wisconsin.

The Badgers' last win against Minnesota was on Oct. 14, 2011, at the
Kohl Center. Since then, the Badgers
have gone 0-5-1 against the Gophers.
Additionally, Minnesota enters
the weekend having tied Wisconsin's
NCAA record for longest undefeated
streak at 32 games.
While not many teams have fared
well against Minnesota this season,
the Badgers proved to be one of their
toughest opponents to date.
Alex Rigsby led the UW defense
with a .936 save percentage Dec. 1-2
at Ridder Arena, the best opponent
save percentage the Gophers have
faced all year.
Wisconsin is also hoping to take advantage of home ice, where the Badgers have gone undefeated in their
past 11 games, including two sweeps
over nationally-ranked teams.
Last season, the Badgers were on
a 32-game undefeated streak until
Minnesota ended it on Oct. 15, 2011,
in the Kohl Center.
This year, the Badgers are looking
to return the favor at LaBahn Arena.
