2012-13 FURMAN PALADINS p BASKETBALL Garry Horton joined the Furman staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2010 following one season as boys assistant head coach at Hughes Center High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. "We are thrilled to add Garry Horton to our new staff," said head coach Jackie Carson when announcing Horton's hiring. "He is highly motivated and possesses an impressive level of coaching and administrative experience that spans the middle school, high school, collegiate, and AAU levels — all of which I'm confident will prove to be a valuable asset to our basketball program." In addition to his stint as at Hughes Center he served as boys varsity head coach and director of operations for the Quinn Anvils basketball squad of the Derek Smith AAU All-Stars in Louisville, and in 2008-09 was the varsity boys basketball coach at Louisville's S.V. Noe Middle School. From 2006-08 he held the position of women's basketball graduate assistant coach and academic advisor at the University of Louisville, during which time the Cardinals posted a 53-18 record and made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Horton played collegiately at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., from 2003-06. As a senior he served as team captain and captured team leadership and defensive player of the year honors. In addition, he ran cross country, served as African-American Student Association President, and was the recipient of a number of school accolades, including Club President, Resident Life, Outstanding Contributor to Student Life, and Serving Learning Program Awards. In 2008 he was honored by Thomas More with its Alumni of the Year Award. Over the last eight years he has worked a variety of outstanding camps as a counselor, instructor, and head coach, including Nike Boys Basketball Camp (Bloomington, Ind.); Black Coaches & Administrators Day Camps (Atlanta, Ga. & Indianapolis, Ind.); Winning Ways Pro International Combine (San Antonio, Texas); Five Star Basketball All-American Camps (Louisville, Ky. & Pittsburgh, Pa.); and Allen Houston's "Fathers Know Best" Day Camp (Louisville, Ky.). 2012-13 FURMAN PALADINS p BASKETBALL Jermaine Brown Director of Basketball Operations Jermaine Brown is entering his third year as director of women's basketball operations at Furman University. Brown's experience includes two seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Wesleyan University in nearby Central, S.C., and two years with the women's basketball program at Columbia (S.C.) College. Over the last several years he has worked several women's basketball camps, including those at Tennessee, North Carolina, Clemson, and LSU, among others. A native of Florence, S.C, he attended South Carolina State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in business economics. 8 Assistant Coach Garry Horton In 2003 he was a member of the of the United States Junior National Team Handball squad. Horton received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Thomas More in 2006 and a master's degree in social work from Louisville in 2008.
