FROM THE CHAIRMAN We opened Alpine Bank in 1973 in Carbondale with $250,000 in assets. Today, with the hindsight of four decades, I can recall thinking I'd be thrilled to reach $10 million in assets in 10 years. Now, with 37 branches and $2.4 billion in assets, my expectations have been exceeded entirely. We serve 100,000 loyal customers in 28 communities and are privileged to employ more than 500 dedicated, talented people who have voted us one of the Top 10 Best Companies to Work For in Colorado.* is commemorative publication, celebrating the 40-year landmark of Alpine Bank being in western Colorado, tells the story of our bank from its inception to today. In it, we share the profiles of just a few Alpine Bank employees who contribute "time, talent and treasure" to their communities through philanthropic activities, nonprofit leadership, and participation in a myriad of community activities. ese employees are representative of the culture of our business, and their examples tell our story best. Our core organizational values of community, compassion, independence, integrity and loyalty are recurrent themes in their stories. ere are a variety of places to keep your money and take out loans. Simply stated, all banks handle financial transactions, investments, loans and deposits, but that is where the similarities end. e actions of some large investment banks in our country and abroad have not only affected our society in the most egregious ways, but also they have soured people's view of the banking profession. I am proud that Alpine Bank remains, in every way, a true community bank, investing in the community just as the community invests in us. Our focus has always been based on a cooperative civic spirit that is not only right for business, it is just the right thing to do. e next 40 years will continue to show an investment of time, talent and treasure in the communities we serve by the employees who define us. On behalf of our shareholders, our board and our employee owners, I thank you for being a part of our legacy. Sincerely yours, J. Robert Young Chairman * ColoradoBiz magazine, 2010 and 2011
